Tasting note: Some rugged tannins are present in this dense ruby/purple-colored St.-Emilion. While the wine is well-made, I do not believe it is as strong an effort as Soutard’s 2008. Black cherry, black currant, licorice, underbrush, and charcoal notes are accompanied by excellent density, medium to full body, and the aforementioned elevated tannins. Drink it over the next 15 years. (Tasted once.) (88-90pts. Robert Parker)

Drink: 2010-25

Tasting note: The finest Soutard since the 1964, the new owners have built a much denser, richer, fuller-bodied wine without losing any of its masculinity and robust character. Dense bluish/purple, with notes of licorice, truffle, camphor and charcoal, the wine is quite backward, tannic and structured beneath the luxurious concentration of blackberry and black cherry fruit. Forget it for 4-5 years and drink it over the following 25+. (91+pts. Robert Parker)

Drink: 2016-41

Tasting note: This wine shows a lovely intense dark color with a fresh, fruity and slightly discreet yet refined and ripe nose. Superb on entry, it delivers a sweet and silky expression before developing pulpy, with tension and taste. Yet, it has enough fat and finishes deep with taste, along with a hint of an austere character (it will disappear). Its very nice length and taste full of flavors speak up for its success. (88-89pts. Jean-Marc Quarin)

Score: 88-89
Drink: N/A

Tasting note: This is rich and well-fruited, but there's very lively acidity running from start to finish as well, allowing the blueberry, loganberry and plum notes to hang tight while the spice and licorice snap hints fill in on the finish. Merlot and Cabernet Franc. Best from 2014 through 2024. Tasted twice, with consistent notes. 1,400 cases made. (91pts. JM, Wine Spectator)
