Tasting note: This is the most impressive effort I have tasted from this estate, owned by Catherine Papon-Nouvel. It is a tiny estate on pure limestone with lots of old vines, the Cabernet Franc is 40 years old, and the Merlot 80 years old. This very Cabernet Franc-dominated wine (around 60%) may be the best wine they have ever made. Dense, rich, ruby/purple-colored, with notes of blueberry, black raspberry, and graphite, the wine has fresh acids, great precision, full-bodied power and opulence, and a terrifically long finish. (91-93pts. Robert Parker)

Tasted: Apr. 2010
Score: 91-93
Drink: 2010-30

Tasting note: Showing a lovely, dark, intense, black color with a fine, fruity and ripe nose, this wine delivers a very lovely entry on the palate that performs velvety and very fruity. It then develops aromatic, with taste, a mellow body and good balance of sensations. Tasty and long on finish, the expression of this wine is a touch woody, always fleshy, and with plenty of fruits. It is no doubt one of the best Clos Saint Julien made by Catherine Papon Nouvel. It is more precise and above all, far less woody than in other vintages. (88pts. Jean-Marc Quarin)

Tasting note: A juicy, full bodied red, with fine tannins and classy style. Half Cabernet Franc, half Merlot; a beautiful wine from old Merlot and Cabernet Franc. A tiny vineyard. (92-95pts. JS, Wine Spectator)
