Tasting note: In contrast to the Echézeaux, this is relatively elegant as the expressive nose features earthy dark berry fruit and floral aromas that are at present intensely animale in character that are in keeping with the robust, textured and impressively concentrated full-bodied flavors that also possess ample levels of dry extract. This too is a big and powerful wine that is youthfully austere, brooding and even more structured yet impeccably well balanced. Terrific. (93pts. Allen Meadows AKA The Burghound)

Tasting note: The 2006 Clos Vougeot has the most cooked berry fruit aspect of any of Forey's 2006s, as well as the most formidable tannic structure. It was also the last to be bottled, so some of the tightness and tanninity I observed might have subsequently dissipated. Suggestions of crushed stone; iodine; fruit pit and dark chocolate bitterness; and charred roast meat lend depth and enhance a certain sense of brooding darkness. This formidable but far from winsome wine should be revisited in 2010 or 2011. I'm sure it will "live" for a decade or more, but is it over-structured, and will its lack of vivacity vis-a-vis so many of the best 2006s handicap it as well? Typically for Forey's approach, each of the five barriques in which this wine evolved was crafted by a different tonnelier. (90+pts. DS, Wine Advocate)

Tasting note: Good deep red. Brooding aromas of black cherry, licorice and spices, plus a whiff of honey. Then powerful but a bit youthfully disassociated, with the wine's huge tannic structure dominating its fruit today. A distinctly masculine style of Clos Vougeot, finishing with tannins that coat the tongue and cheeks. Plenty of material here but tough going today. (90(+?)pts. Steven Tanzer)
