Vintage: 2005 Format: 750ml Wine Name: Sea Smoke Pinot Noir Vineyard: Designation: Botella Appellation: Santa Rita Hills Producer: Sea Smoke Varietal: Pinot Noir Type: Red Country: USA Region: California Sub-Region: Central Coast Alcohol:
Tasting note: Deep red. Spicy cherry and raspberry on the nose, with exotic cola and cinnamon qualities adding complexity. Sweet red berry and kirsch flavors are open-knit, juicy and lightly firmed by silky tannins. Gains a peppery, spicy quality on the finish, which is smoky, sweet, broad and long. "The lots for this bottling are chosen for being fruit-driven and requiring less time to open," said winemaker Kris Curran. (90pts. Josh Raynolds, Stephen Tanzer’s International Wine Cellar)
Tasted: Nov/Dec 2007 Score: 90 Drink: N/A
Tasting note: A lush and opulent nose redolent of a spice bazaar features very ripe red, blue and violet aromas that are in keeping with the silky and round medium weight plus flavors that are really quite stylish if not nearly as concentrated as those of its two stable mates, all wrapped in a delicious, pure and tangy finish that carries the considerable alcohol with more grace than one might guess. (88pts. Allen Meadows, AKA The Burghound)
Tasted: Oct. 01, 2007 Score: 88 Drink: 2009+
Tasting Note: Firm, ripe and spicy, with a mix of dark fruits, blackberry and wild berry, with an attractive floral scent. Gains richness and depth while holding its focus. The tannins provide structure and a nice mouthfeel. Drink now through 2011. 1,250 cases made. (91pts. JL, Wine Spectator)
