Tasting note: Here the nose is also discreet and brooding with incredible aromatic breadth that includes similar violet notes but the fruit profile is more black and red than blue plus a kaleidoscopic array of spice elements. Interestingly, in 2005 this is as big and powerful as the Bonnes Mares yet finer with superbly deep and energetic full-bodied flavors that are sleekly muscled, all wrapped in palate saturating dry extract and simply mind-boggling length. In sum, this is a big but utterly classy wine that should also see its 50th birthday in perfect shape. (98pts. Burghound)

Tasting note: There will sadly be fewer than forty cases of 2005 Musigny, which displays pristine ripe and distilled red berry fruit, herbal and bitter-sweet citrus zest and floral essences, and mysterious intimations of meat and minerals on the nose. In the mouth, this offers polished, melting tannins and creaminess of texture; clarity, vivacity and intensity of sweet, ripe red fruits; persistent iris and violet florality; deep, marrowy meatiness; and a dynamic exchange with subtly tactile suggestions of white pepper, chalk dust, and wet stone such as – other than Pinot – only a great Riesling can give.  (97-98pts. Tasting note: Deep red-ruby. Wonderfully nuanced, ethereal aromas of red berries, spices, flowers and minerals; this one covers all the Musigny food groups. Dense and sappy in the mouth, with superb extract and energy. Comes across as sweeter today than the Bonnes-Mares, but also displays an exhilarating peppery pungency owing to the vinification with 50% whole clusters. I love this sample's texture, suavity and grip. Finishes with superb aromatic persistence. This and the Bonnes-Mares will go on for decades. (95-98pts. Stephen Tanzer)
