Tasting note: The 2005 Chateauneuf du Pape possesses a dark ruby/purple color in addition to a classic Provencal nose of roasted herbs, ground pepper, lavender, balsam wood, and kirsch. This thick, juicy, full-bodied Chateauneuf reveals sweet tannin as well as tangy acidity. It can be drunk now or cellared for 10-12+ years. (90 pts. Robert Parker)
Tasted: October 2007
Score: 90
Drink: 2007-19+
Tasting note: Bright ruby. Fresh raspberry and cherry aromas are complemented by suave garrigue and dried floral qualities. Lively red fruits on the palate, with energizing acidity adding snap and focus. Silky tannins build on the long, vibrant finish. Much fresher than the barrel sample I tried last year. (90 pts. Josh Raynolds, Steven Tanzer's International Wine Cellar)
Tasted: Jan./Feb. 2008
Score: 90
Tasting note: On the lighter side for a 2005, with sandalwood, black tea, shaved vanilla and crushed red and black cherry fruit all mingling through the supple, fine-grained finish. Has length and balance, but not the power of most of its peers in this vintage. Grenache and Syrah. Drink now through 2019. 3,165 cases made. (90 pts. JM, Wine Spectator)
