Vintage: 2005
Format: 750ml
Wine Name: Chambolle-Musigny
Vineyard: Les Sentiers
Designation: 1er Cru
Appellation: Chambolle-Musigny
Producer: Robert Groffier
Varietal: Pinot Noir
Type: Red
Country: France
Region: Burgundy
Sub-Region: Cote de Nuits
Tasting note: Deep, bright red-ruby. Wild aromas of
black raspberry, mocha and mace. Rich and fat but a bit youthfully
monolithic, showing more game and spice than fruits and flowers today.
Much more closed and tannic than the Hauts-Doix. This appears to be in
the process of shutting down. (90+?pts. Stephen Tanzer)
Tasted: Mar. 2008
Score: 90+?
Drink: N/A
Tasting note: The Groffier 2005 Chambolle-Musigny Les Sentiers offers sweet and at the
same time tart black cherry and black raspberry, black tea and blond
tobacco, taking on a faintly bitter herbal edge in its finish of humus
and caramel-tinged black fruits. This displays formidable density and
lightly cooked fruit intensity quite in contrast with the personality of
the Hauts Doix but it is much less winsome today, and seems to want yet
more time in the cellar, perhaps 5-7 years to permit proper assessment. (91pts. DS, Wine Advocate)
Tasted: Apr. 2007
Score: 91
