Tasting note: Dark, rich and hearty. Packed with pure blackberry, blueberry and wild berry fruit that's intense, concentrated and tightly focused. Finishes with a long, layered finish that keeps repeating the berry themes, with a dash of mocha. Best from 2007 through 2012. 300 cases made. (95pts. JL,Wine Spectator)

Tasting note: Perhaps the finest offering from John and Lorraine Alban, the 2004 Syrah Lorraine Vineyard will undoubtedly eclipse the 2003. From a vineyard planted in 1990, it boasts an opaque blue/purple color in addition to intense aromas of white flowers, graphite, and blueberry liqueur. In the mouth, an additional note of blackberries emerges along with plenty of tannin, superb purity, and stunning intensity. This singular effort represents one of the New Worlds greatest expressions of Syrah. It should age beautifully for 15-20 years. (99pts. Robert Parker)
