Tasting note: Opulent, with pineapple, guava, peach and accents of smoke and mineral.
Just off-dry, with a vibrant structure that emerges on the finish. Not
as intense as the Brand today, but be patient, as this is always one of
the domaine's top Rieslings. Best from 2005 through 2015. 260 cases made (91 pts. BS, Wine Spectator)
Tasted: Sep 15, 2004
Score: 91
Drink: Through 2015
Tasting note: (from a crop Humbrecht described as
infinitesimal, picked without botrytis) Incredible rocky nose hints at
flint, smoke and curry powder, along with a high-pitched green note of
lime leaf; more a wine of soil than cepage Superrich, chewy and dense;
really saturates the mouth with rocks and minerals. Offers an unusual
balance for this cuvee, as it's purely mineral, with no influence of
jammy botrytis. Extremely tactile wine. This was just 11.5% alcohol
before the summer, but then it started fermenting again, said Humbrecht.
But it went through its malolactic fermentation and thus he won't call
it VT. (92-95 points Steven Tanzer, IWC)
Tasted: November/December 2003
