Vintage: 2002
Format: 1.5L
Wine Name: Montrachet
Vineyard:
Designation: Grand Cru
Appellation: Montrachet
Producer: Henri Boillot
Varietal: Chardonnay
Type: White
Country: France
Region: Burgundy
Sub-Region: Côte de Beaune
Tasting Note:
Remarkably powerful and fresh white flower notes and hints of wet stones introduce strikingly well delineated, very ripe orchard fruit aromas framed by noticeably toasty oak leads to full-blown, robust, intensely chewy flavors yet there is lovely detail and such a firm acid spine that it more than manages to rein in the incredible size and weight of the finish. This is a vibrant effort that possesses a notable long finish that is almost painfully intense. As much as I admire the Chevalier, this Montrachet is a hair better. (96pts AM, Burghound)
Tasted: July 1, 2004
Score: 96
Drink: 2010+
Tasting Note:
Liqueur-like aromas of mirabelle and vanilla. Huge and powerful, verging on exotic; all minerals and iodine. Like a mouthful of liquid stone. Could hardly be more different in style from the Chevalier-Montrachet. A bit phenolic on the back end, but then this has a texture more like a red wine than a white. A trace of malic acidity currently blocks the wine's length. But this should be great. (95-98 pts. Steven Tanzer, IWC)
Tasted: September/October 2003
