Tasting note: Fashioned from Latour’s finest parcel of Meursault Genevrieres (with vines over 50 years old), the 2002 Cuvee des Pierre was produced entirely in new oak barrels. Spicy oak-laced pears are intermingled with minerals in its boisterous aromatics. A huge, medium to full-bodied wine of breadth, depth, and concentration, it coats the palate with velvety layers of toasty spices and poached pears. It is rich, intensely flavored, and reveals a long, suave finish. (93-95pts. PR, Wine Advocate)

Score: 93-95
Drink: 2004-2013
Tasting note: Strong but not over the top wood spice presently fights for center stage with exotic, spicy and perfumed very ripe peach and apricot aromas. The massive, vanilla tinged flavors are extremely rich, powerful and blessed with enormous amounts of dry extract that coats and stains the palate. This has grand cru weight yet it does not lack for finesse and the backend delivers incredible length plus a touch of warmth. Wines like this are indeed most impressive and to be sure, the underlying raw material cannot be faulted but this is a bit too much for me and I prefer the regular cuvée of the Genevrières even though it's not quite as dramatic. (91-93pts. Allen Meadows aka The Burghound)

Drink: 2007-2012
Tasting note: Musky, superripe aromas of ginger, clove and nut oil, with a hint of petrol; more soil-driven than simply fruity. Then dense, fresh and surprisingly dry in the mouth, with enticing fruit flavors of pineapple and orange. An impressively concentrated, very young wine with a chewy, almost tannic finish. Today the regular cuvee is more subtle, though. (93(+?)pts. Steven Tanzer)
