Vintage: 2001 Format: 750ml Wine Name: Cote-Rotie Vineyard: Designation: Appellation: Cote-Rotie Producer: Domaine Duclaux Varietal: Syrah Type: Red Country: France Region: Rhone Sub-Region: Northern Rhone Alcohol:
Tasting note: The moderately deep ruby/purple-colored 2001 Cote Rotie offers a sweet bouquet of black fruits in a seductive, lush style revealing notions of toast nicely touched by wood and floral notes. Possessing decent acidity, good sweetness, and a medium-bodied, delicate finish, it will drink well for 10-12 years.
This estate, now run by Edmond Duclauxs two sons, David and Benjamin, utilizes only barriques and demi-muids (650-liter barrels), approximately 50% new. The wines are delicate, feminine examples of Cote Rotie not dissimilar from those produced by Patrick Jasmin. (86-88pts. Robert Parker)
Tasted: June 2003 Score: 86-88 Drink: 2003-2015
Tasting note: Bright ruby-red. Black fruits, licorice, pepper and smoke on the nose; much more vinous than either the '02 or '03. Then quite firm in the middle palate, with hints of pepper and herbs. Shows a slightly rustic herbal character and seems to be going into a shell. Probably needs five or six years in the cellar, but I'd like to have seen a bit more definition today. (87(+?)pts. Stephen Tanzer)
