Vintage: 2001 Format: 750ml Wine Name: Bienvenues Batard Montrachet Vineyard: Designation: Grand Cru Appellation: Chassagne-Montrachet Producer: Henri Boillot Varietal: Chardonnay Type: White Country: France Region: Burgundy Sub-Region: Cote de Beaune Alcohol:
Tasting note: The oak is less well integrated yet it nicely complements the honeysuckle and white flower fruit aromas and here the flavors are decidedly finer and more delineated than those of the Criots. Sappy, very long and quite fine if a bit too oaky for my personal preferences, at least for the moment anyway. Still, this is most impressive with excellent depth of extract so there is a chance the oak will indeed integrate. (93pts. Allen Meadows, AKA The Burghound)
Tasted: Jul. 01, 2003 Score: 93 Drink: 2006-11
Tasting note: Smoke, buttered toast, and pears can be found in the nose of the 2001 Bienvenue-Batard-Montrachet. A huge wine of sumptuous richness and breadth, it conquers the palate with dense layers of peaches, apricots, spices, and poached pears. Medium to full-bodied and chewy-textured, it is a boldly flavored, concentrated, sensual, decadent wine for drinking over the next 7-8 years. (95pts. PR, Wine Advocate)
Tasted: Apr. 2003 Score: 95 Drink: 2003-11
Tasting note: Smoky oak and grilled nuts on the nose. Rich, layered and fat, with uncanny sucrosity and major volume. Complicating note of bacon fat. This thick, creamy grand cru tastes almost sweet. Very long wine with great potential. (92-95pts. Stephen Tanzer)
Tasted: Sep/Oct 2002 Score: 92-95 Drink: N/A
