Tasting note: Full ruby-red. Aromas of blackcurrant, smoke and roasted, nutty oak. Concentrated and sweet but in the process of shutting down. Impressively dark, primary flavors of cassis, violet and bitter chocolate supported by sound acids. A rich but slightly medicinal wine that is no doubt better than it's showing today. (89pts Stephen Tanzer)

Tasting note: This continues to be one of the most seductive and luscious d'Armailhacs I have ever tasted. It may be my favorite vintage of d'Armailhac. Opaque purple-colored, this blend of 58% Cabernet Sauvignon and 42% Merlot has surprisingly good acidity with the high Merlot content and high tannin, but an expressive, opulent mid-texture and loads of charcoal-infused, cedary, black currant fruit intermixed with spice box, dried herbs, and espresso notes. The wine is full-bodied, sweet, and expansive. (91pts Robert Parker)
Tasted: Apr. 2003 Score: 91 Drink: 2007-20
Tasting note: Juicy red. Plenty of tobacco, berry and currant character in this. Medium-bodied, with fine tannins and a long finish. (90pts JS, Wine Spectator)
Tasted: Mar. 31, 2003 Score: 90 Drink: 2008-After
Tasting note: Blend: 48% merlot and 52% cabernet sauvignon. Colour Deep red. Good intensity. Crimson. Nose Clean. Average to good intensity. Some fruit and a greener touch. After swirling Clean. Good intensity. Better. Fruity. Palate A soft wine which presents itself well at this stage, with more flesh and roundness than in other vintages. The woodiness is better too. This is a pleasant wine. (86pts Jean-Marc Quarin)
