Tasting note: Very polished yet wild. Ripe and decadent, with spice, meat and fruit. Full-bodied, with thick, velvety tannins and a long, flavorful finish. A full-throttle red. Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot and Syrah. Best after 2007. 9,500 cases made. (93pts. JS, Wine Spectator)
Tasted: Oct. 15, 2003
Score: 93
Drink: After 2007
Tasting note: The 2000 Guado al Tasso, made at the house’s Bolgheri vineyards, I regret to say, seems to indicate that this wine is going backwards. After an excellent 1998, the 1999 is not evolving particularly well in bottle and frankly, the 2000 is less than what one might expect. The nose, well spiced and herbaceous, is a bit green, and the tannins and acidity are both too prominent at the moment. Some bottle time may help, but only a born optimist could believe that this wine will completely straighten out. Drink: 2005-2015. (87pts. DT, Wine Advocate)
