Tasting note: Earthy, rich, dense and complex on both the nose and the palate with medium tannins, good supporting acidity and grand cru quality length. As is usually the case however with young Méo Clos de Vougeot, this comes across as a bit lighter than one might expect, given the pedigree and location of these vines yet this wine has also proven that if given sufficient time, it does indeed add weight and complexity. Thus, I would strongly counsel leaving this alone until at least 2006 and then drinking over the next 5 to 10 years. In short, this is a very solid if not sensational '98. (89pts. Allen Meadows AKA "The Burghound")

Tasting note: Good red-ruby. Aromas of cherry, licorice and spicy oak, plus a violet topnote. Rich, broad and fleshy, with impressive sweetness and volume for a young Clos Vougeot. Then finishes with fine, horizontal, palate-coating tannins. A very good showing. (91pts. Stephen Tanzer)

Score: 91

Tasting note: Tannic, but the tannins are enveloped by plenty of fleshy fruit. Medium-bodied, deftly toasted with spicy oak. Bursts with some clean and pure blackberry flavors and offers a lingering, succulent, firm finish. (90pts. PM, Wine Spectator)
