Tasting note: A beautiful wine, with raspberry and floral aromas. Full-bodied, with
silky, caressing tannins and a long, long finish. Gorgeous now, but will
improve with age.--1996 Piedmont retrospective. (92pts. JS, Wine Spectator)
Tasted: 2007
Score: 92
Drink: After 2007
Tasting note: The terrifically fruity, quite flattering 1996 Barbaresco Vigneto
Gallina is full-bodied, with outstanding concentration, plenty of
earthy, plum/cherry, smoky, spice scents, low acidity, and moderate
tannin in the layered finish. It should drink well for a dozen or more
years. (90pts. Robert Parker)
Tasted: Aug. 1999
Score: 90
Drink: 1999-2011
Tasting note: Very good deep red. More plum and
redcurrant fruitiness to stand up to the oak aroma; slightly minty.
Sweet, lush and lovely, with very good acidity and strong fruit.
Possesses more density to support the ripe, nicely integrated tannins.
Minty and quite long. For the cellar. (92+?pts. Stephen Tanzer)
Tasted: Dec. 1998
Score: 92+?
