Vintage: 1996
Format: 750ml
Wine Name: Barbaresco
Vineyard: Vigneto Starderi
Designation: Vursu
Appellation: Barbaresco
Producer: La Spinetta (Rivetti)
Varietal: Nebbiolo
Type: Red
Country: Italy
Region: Piedmont
Sub-Region: Langhe
Tasting note: Complex aromas of dried mushroom, blackberry and cedar follow through to
a full-bodied palate, with fine tannins and a long, smoky aftertaste of
berry and flowers. Just what it should be.--1996 Piedmont
retrospective. (93pts. JS, Wine Spectator)
Tasted: 2007
Score: 93
Drink: After 2007
Tasting note: The 1996 Barbaresco Vigneto Starderi's deep ruby color is followed by an
explosive nose of sweet cherry liqueur, vanillin, and wood smoke. This
full-bodied, highly-extracted, intense, sexy, moderately tannic wine is
powerful yet well-balanced. Despite its ability to improve for 10-15
years, it is easy to drink at present. (90pts. Robert Parker)
Tasted: Aug. 1999
Score: 90
Drink: 1999-2014
Tasting note: Very good deep red. Red fruit, mint,
flowers, and strong cedary, nutty oak on the nose. Big, rich, sweet and a
bit minty; expressive high tones in the mouth. A bit tough today, with
the tannins dominating. (90+?pts. Stephen Tanzer)
Tasted: Dec. 1998
Score: 90+?
