Tasting note: This is one of the finest white wines I have ever had the pleasure of drinking and represents for me the supreme expression of this vineyard. While I have had many great examples of Corton-Charlemagne over the years, none have ever quite encompassed the masculine power, minerality, breed, intensity and essence of wet rocks quite like this wine. Unlike so many '89s, the acid fruit/balance relative to the considerable extract is perfect. As if this weren't enough, the length this wine displays is so extraordinary that only a few of the best examples of Montrachet approach it. In short, I was simply in awe of a wine that is knocking on the door of perfection and one that has reached its plateau. (98pts. Allen Meadows, AKA “The Burghound”)

Tasting note: It is hard to believe, but Coche-Dury's 1989 Corton-Charlemagne is even better than his spectacular 1986. Unbelievably concentrated, it exhibits superb depth, good acidity, and a penetrating earthy, mineral quality. The finish lasts over a minute. It may have more structure and aging potential than the 1986, which is just now beginning to reach its peak of maturity. Given the world-wide interest in the micro-quantities produced of this wine, it will be nearly impossible to find.
Jean-Francois Coche-Dury is one of the greatest winemakers on planet Earth. He continues to produce dazzling wines from unbelievably tiny yields, taking the maximum risk by bottling his wines with no filtration. His spectacular 1989s are worth a special effort to obtain. (98pts. Robert Parker)
